Sînziana-Ioana Oncioiu
Mental health epidemiologist
I am interested in understanding how the social worlds of children and adolescents, especially their peer relationships, influence their mental health and are shaped by early childhood experiences. Using data from studies that track the lives of thousands of people from birth into adulthood, I have investigated how bullying experiences unfold over time, and how they relate to risk factors and mental health outcomes. I hope that my research may inform the development of interventions aimed at improving the social relationships and mental health of young people.
I am a pharmacist turned mental health epidemiologist. I hold a Master’s degree in Public Health Epidemiology from the Karolinska Institute (Sweden) and a PhD in the same field from the University of Bordeaux (France). I became interested in disease prevention and health promotion while serving patients with comorbid chronic diseases in a community pharmacy in Brasov (Romania) as well as through volunteering for Save the Children Romania.
